Labor Shortage for Trucking Companies in the USA
Trucking companies in the present moment have a shortage of workers around 30,000. New rules from the government that ensure reduced driving hours will create a need for an additional 100,000 drivers. Though this will open job opportunities the fact that there is already such a noticeable shortage may mean that working as a trucker is becoming an undesirable job in the USA.
A similar thing happened in the agricultural/manual labor field and the solution has been opening up the agricultural work force to Hispanic labor. Coming back to our subject, in 2012 there was nearly a 100% turnover rate for long-haul truckers as they move onto higher paying jobs. There are also factors like being over-worked, poorly paid and having high health and safety risks on the job. The issue on hand is that neither the truckers, the government or the transport companies are satisfied with the situation.
