Angelina Jolie's Brave Choice Slammed by Etheridge

When recently diagnosed with a genetic mutation that usually results in a high probability of ovarian or breast cancer, Angelina Jolie decided to confront her risk by having a double mastectomy in order to ensure the genetic mutation wouldn't lead to cancer. The fact that Angeline Jolie went public with her health choice and the dramatic preventive action she took has made a big stir in both the celebrity and health care world. Though not many women have the same genetic mutation as Jolie, many women are at risk for breast or ovarian cancer and suffer the social stigma and self-consciousness about having either breasts or ovaries removed.
When singer Melissa Etheridge, who has the same genetic mutation and has successfully undergone cancer treatment 9 years ago, was asked her opinion, she did not stand behind Jolie's choice. In fact, she said how Jolie responded wasn't brave, but rather was a fearful choice. Etheridge says this because she thinks that cancer comes from inside one's body and has to do with the body's environment and if it's under stress the gene will turn on or not.
