The Serpentine Pavilion in London

The question was how to make a cloud out of steel, and Suo Fujimoto responded. One of the world's top new architects, Fujimoto made a cloud out of 28 kilometers of thin metal tubes that were cut up into tiny sections (27,000) and then rejoined (in 10,000 places). This will be the new pavilion of Serpentine Gallery, where music, film screenings, lectures, art and more will be happening.

It will also be the cool place to hang out in Hyde Park. The pavilion is an enigma, as it manages to look both finished and raw at the same time, both hard and soft. The goal of Fujimoto is to erase architectural boundaries, and he claims to have gained more of a sense of space from Albert Einstein's theories than from architectural training. Another interesting aspect is that there is no roof, as it's made from invisible thin polycarbonate discs that seem invisible. The Serpentine pavilion walks the line between primitive and very sophisticated.
